Friends of a young teacher who lost his battle with cancer four years ago continue his fundraising mission this weekend.

Luke Williams, 29, was diagnosed with mouth cancer on his 28th birthday on June 18, 2013, and went on to inspire countless people with his positive attitude towards tackling his illness.

The Margate IT teacher launched a bucket list after secondary cancer was identified in his lungs, which doctors told him was terminal.

He decided to stop the aggressive cancer treatment and enjoy his remaining days.

One of his wishes was to raise money, initially for Pilgrims Hospice and Cancer Research, and his friends have worked to continue fundraising for charities in his memory.

Another was to marry his fiancee Linda, which he did in August 2014.

The former Hartdown pupil raised thousands for the charities before he died in October 2013.

Keeping his legacy alive, Margate Winter Gardens is set to host the Luke’s Legacy charity gala on Saturday from 7pm.

Hosted by Lloyd Hollett, acts include Lemar, Lydia Lucy, Mic Righteous, Alola Rose, Sock and Sliders, Wisewoods and Clint Stevenson.

Standard tickets for the gala are £25, while VIP tickets are £35 which gives a table closer to the stage with food during the show.

It is a seated event and only for over-16’s. This is the fourth annual Williams Weekender, presented by Luke’s Legacy Charitable Trust.

In 2014 £26,000 was donated to Pilgrim’s Hospice and £2,500 to CancerResearch UK.
