Major rescue operation launched at Margate Main Sands after woman spotted in sea

Emergency services launched a major operation at a beach after a woman got into trouble in the sea.

The coastguard helicopter was scrambled to Margate Main Sands after reports of a person in the water.

Margate and Herne Bay coastguard rescue teams, Ramsgate RNLI and the Margate lifeguard also joined the search shortly after 5.30pm on Saturday.

Paramedics also attended the incident.

A coastguard spokesperson said: “The casualty was recovered and passed into the care of the ambulance service.”

It is understood the woman was treated for cold and shock.
