Man from Cliftonville in Margate appears in court charged with murder

A man has been charged with the murder of another at a property in Margate.

Jonathan Cottrell, 34, of Appleton Road, Cliftonville, appeared in court today accused of murdering 47-year-old Karsten Holmes.

Emergency crews had been called to Dane Road, Margate, at 7.10pm last Tuesday, where Mr Holmes was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Following a post-mortem examination on Friday, detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched a murder investigation and arrested Cottrell.

He was charged with murder yesterday and appeared via video link at Medway Magistrates' Court earlier today.

Dressed in a grey tracksuit, he spoke only to confirm his name and address.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday.
