Man killed in Bush Avenue, Ramsgate, after reported machete attack

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was allegedly killed in a knife attack.

Police were called to Bush Avenue in Ramsgate at 5pm yesterday to reports a man had collapsed.

The victim, 40-year-old Michael Ward - also known as Archie - had suffered a stab wound to his thigh.

Mr Ward, who worked for a local scaffolding company, died at the scene.

He had reportedly driven to Bush Avenue after suffering a the stab wound during an earlier "altercation" in St John’s Crescent.

A knife believed to have been used in the incident has been seized by officers.

It was reported locally that the alleged attack happened at a barbecue.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. He and the victim knew each other.

Emergency services swooped on the scene at the height of the incident.

Two helicopters, including the air ambulance, were sent, landing at nearby Newington school, as well as five police patrol cars and three land ambulances.

The area around Bush Avenue and St John's Avenue was cordoned off by police.

The investigation is being handled by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate and inquiries are ongoing.

Tributes have been paid on social media to Mr Ward, who was described as a "top bloke".

Police remained at the scene today as investigations continued and a tarpaulin was raised outside the semi-detached home.

Manchester United shirts were laid on the pavement as well as floral tributes to "Our Arch".
