Ramsgate man arrested on suspicion of murder after body of teenage girl pulled from sea near Broadstairs

A 21-year-old man from Ramsgate arrested on suspicion of murder after the discovery of the body of a teenage girl in the sea off Broadstairs has been bailed.

Police and coastguard were called to Port of Ramsgate at 5am on Sunday after concerns for the welfare of a person in the water.

A coastguard helicopter was seen searching the Ramsgate coast at around 7am.
At 7.45am, a body was pulled out of the water at Broadstairs.

The girl is thought to have fallen from Ramsgate's East Pier

Police spokesman Steve Knight: "The body is believed to be that of a teenage girl from Ramsgate. Her next of kin have been informed."

Police said tonight that the arrested man had now been released on bail until June 24.

Det Ch Insp Nick Gossett of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "We were called at 5.01am on Sunday 1 May due to concern for the welfare of a person in the water at the Port of Ramsgate.

"Officers attended and notified the coastguard, who carried out a search with boats and a helicopter.

"Shortly after 7.45am they recovered a body from the water off the coast of Broadstairs."
