A man has been badly hurt after being hit by a car in Margate this afternoon.

He was struck by the vehicle in Grovesnor Gardens, near St John the Baptist Church, at around 2.20pm.

Kent Police said the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were still at the scene this afternoon as crash investigators launched a probe.

The road was closed in both directions into the evening rush hour, causing heavy congestion.
