A man remains in hospital while another has been released without charge after a car ploughed into a funeral directors.

Pictures captured the aftermath of the crash in Plains of Waterloo, Ramsgate, showing a Peugeot estate which appears to have driven through the window of the Co-op Funeralcare branch.

Police, paramedics and the fire service descended on the junction with King Street.

An air ambulance also landed at nearby Chatham House Grammar School.

A man was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries following the incident shortly before 3pm on Thursday.

Another person suffered injuries but these were not said to be serious.

Police arrested a man from Ramsgate on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving but he has since been released without charge.

The force have also today confirmed the man who suffered serious injuries in the incident remains in hospital.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "I can confirm we were called shortly after 2.45pm [on Thursday] to reports a car had left the road and struck a building in King Street, Ramsgate.

"Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service.

"Two patients were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

"The first patient was airlifted to Kings College Hospital with serious injuries and the second patient was taken to William Harvey Hospital with injuries believed to be less serious."
