A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Fire crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to release a woman trapped in her car in Hengist Way, Ramsgate this morning.

"Fire engines from Margate and Ramsgate attended the incident and removed the woman on a spinal longboard, passing her into the care of the ambulance service.

"Three other people were also taken to hospital for precautionary checks. Crews were on the scene until about 7.20am."

The Ford Focus was reported to be in a dangerous position, with other motorists trying to drive around it.

There was also broken glass and a fuel spillage in the road, prompting police to call Kent Highways to clear it.

The damaged car has now been recovered and the road has been re-opened.
