A top Thanet chef expects it to get a little hot in the kitchen next week.

Dev Biswal, executive chef at The Ambrette in King Street, Margate, has been challenged to an Indian cook off against four of the country’s top restauarants.

He and his team will have just four hours to prepare a starter, main course and dessert for eight diners, before judges turn up the heat with a rigorous assessment.

A panel of prestigious chefs, restaurant managers and top food journalists will tuck into the three dishes and mark the chefs on their cooking skills, presentation and teamwork.

The front of house team will also be under close scrutiny in the competition, which takes place at the Restaurant Show 2010 at Earls Court in London next
Wednesday.

Mr Biswal described the invitation to compete in the Indian Restaurant Challenge as a "great honour". He added: "I'm hoping to put this part of Kent on the gastro map of Britain."
