Margate flat blaze sees 60 firefighters in operation

Ten engines and 60 firefighters were needed to tackle a blaze in a 15 storey block of flats.

The fire on the ninth floor at around 8pm last night, was reported to emergency services by more than 30 people.

A height vehicle was also used at the Millmead Road, Margate scene.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus searched the building for anyone who may have been trapped, and police and ambulance were in attendance.

The Red Cross was also called to offer assistance to residents.

By 10pm the blaze was under control and only one engine remained.

It is not believed that anyone was injured.

The cause of the inferno is being investigated.
