With original photographs, posters and more, the Memories from the Dream Factory exhibition is set to roll back the years when it officially opens this weekend.

Many of the Dreamland items date from the 1920s and 1930s, through the war years, the infamous mods and rockers era and beyond.

The oldest exhibits date from 1913, promoting the famous Hall by the Sea, Dreamland's predecessor.

The collection is owned by Nick Evans, author of the book Dreamland Revived, which charts the park's history.

All of the photographs and literature formed part of Dreamland's reference collection but where given to Nick's late father, Bill Evans, who was the holding company's press officer for much for the 1970s and early 1980s, ahead of the part being acquired by the Bembom Brothers in 1981.

This is the second exhibition to be launched by The Dreamland Trust this year.

Nick said: "It's thanks to Bill that we have the collection at all.

"It was nearly all thrown away as the outgoing owners were clearing the decks after agreeing terms with the Bemboms.

"Dad stepped in and asked if he could have the material - to be told to help himself as it was otherwise heading for a skip outside.

"Many of the items on display are the sole surviving examples of their kind and thanks to careful handling and storage over the decades they are in extremely good condition.

"By chance, the exhibition opens to the public on the 22nd anniversary of Bill's death - he would have been delighted that the collection he saved was on display like this for the first time."

The Memories from the Dream Factory exhibition will be open on weekends during October, starting from Saturday, October 14 at Dreamland.

Copies of Nick's book will be available to buy and he will on hand some of the time to sign them.

Bernie Morgan, chair of the Dreamland Trust said: "We are delighted to be able to display this wonderful collection of photographs and prints which demonstrates the incredible heritage and history of Dreamland."

The exhibition is part of a series of projects planned by the charity, which relies on charitable funding.
