New convenience store Morrisons M Local has opened in Ramsgate, creating 20 new jobs.
The King Street shop was opened by Sarah Gough, founder of Ramsgate-based charity The Alfie Gough Trust.
She was invited by store manager Dan Thompson who was keen to pick a “local hero” and to support a charity that works in the local community.
The store’s focus will be offering more fresh food. It includes a “Food to Go” section, where customers can pick up fresh coffee and pastries.
Mr Thompson said: “We’re looking forward to being part of the community. We already have a community noticeboard in place for local people to use to promote events, which is a great start.
The store will open from 7am to 11pm every day.
The trust is named after Sarah’s son Alfie who died in July 2010. He was inspiration for the trust which aims to improve the quality of life for children with cancer.
The trust works to create awareness of integrated cancer care, with a natural diet and a combination of natural nutritional supplements, to reduce some of the side effects of chemotherapy and boost children’s immune systems to give them the best chance of fighting the disease.
