Motorists face delays after smash shuts A299 Thanet Way shut coastbound between Potten Street Road and Canterbury Road

A two-vehicle smash on a major route has sparked a road closure and traffic delays.

The A299 Thanet Way is closed coastbound after a crash between Potten Street Road in Birchington, at the Hedgend Industrial Estate turn-off, and the A28 Canterbury Road at the St Nicholas At Wade roundabout.

Delays are expected in the area following the incident.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said in a statement this evening: "Due to a serious accident on the A299 Thanet way our 36 bus is terminating at Hillborough.

"Any passengers travelling from Margate to Herne Bay, will need to use the 8/8A service to Sturry.

“Then you will need to board a 600/601 to Herne Bay.”
