Pensioners mugged at pubs in Margate and Ramsgate as London man to appear in court

Two pensioners have been attacked and mugged at pubs in Thanet at the weekend.

A man has been charged and will appear in court today after two alleged robberies in Ramsgate and Margate on Saturday.

An elderly man in his 70s was punched in the head and had his wallet stolen when he was attacked at The Mechanical Elephant - a Wetherspoons pub - on Margate seafront at 12.20pm.

The victim required hospital treatment, police confirmed.

Later in the day, another elderly man was punched twice and had his wallet swiped in a separate incident between 5pm and 5.30pm at Mariners Bar in Ramsgate.

The robbery was reported after the attack in the toilets of the bar.

Qerim Bejta, from Woodlands Street in London, was arrested close to Ramsgate harbour on Saturday afternoon and is currently in custody.

The 31-year-old will appear before magistrates in Medway today charged with two counts of robbery.
