A 24-year-old care worker is preparing to pound the streets in memory of her grandmother Sybil Foord.
Mrs Foord was cared for by Pilgrims Hospices in December 2014, so her granddaughter Claire Mursell’s grandma will be taking part in this year’s colour run to raise money for the charity.
Running has become a new hobby for Claire, who lives in Ramsgate, and her partner Sam Grist.
“When I saw the event advertised on Facebook, I knew I had to take part and raise money for the charity that looked after my grandma,” she said.
“She was so well looked after by Pilgrims.
“She was made comfortable and our family were welcome to visit; it was a lovely, welcoming place.
“All the Pilgrims staff were helpful and gave our family the support we needed. Pilgrims means the world to me.
“With their kindness and care, they made my grandma’s last days the best they could be.
“This support was extended to our family after she passed.”
Claire’s family will be cheering her on at the 5km run this month.
She added: “By getting sponsored to complete the Thanet colour run, I hope to ensure that more local families can benefit from the support and care my grandma and family received.
“I would just like to add how much support and encouragement I have received from my mum Trudy - she is my rock and always supports me with everything I do.”
Sponsor Claire by visiting her JustGiving page - justgiving.com/fundraising/claire-mursell.
The annual fundraiser takes place on Sunday, October 21 and those wanting to take part can sign up at pilgrimshospices.org/colourrun.
Entry is £20 for adults and £15 for under 11s.
All participants will receive a running number, white t-shirt, funky glasses and colour sachet on the day.
Extra paint sachets will be available to buy at the event, with a medal given to all finishers.
