Police are hunting for a burglar who gained access to people's homes through windows left open in the hot weather.

The first incident took place at a house in St Luke's Avenue, Ramsgate, between 9pm on Sunday, July 17, and 7.30am the following morning.

A purse and tobacco were stolen, with cards from the purse later found in Finsbury Road.

The second burglary happened on the same evening between 8pm and 3am at a ground-floor flat in Victoria Road.

A wallet and cash were stolen and the wallet was found outside the home.

Police say the the two burglaries are linked and are keen to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in either area during Sunday night.

Acting detective sergeant Richard Allen said: "In both cases we believe that the intruder gained access through windows left open due to the hot weather.

"Check doors and windows are closed locked – even in hot weather – and that you have working security lights.

"Use timers to turn interior lights or a radio on and off and light dark or hidden entrances."
