This is an image of a person police are looking for after a 78-year-old man fell victim to a distraction burglary.

The incident happened on Tuesday, June 16, at about noon in Airedale Close, Margate.

A man knocked on the victim’s door, saying that he was there to read the meter and showed him some form of identification.

The victim challenged the man, saying he hadn’t received a letter, but the man told him he would still read the meter anyway.

The victim then showed the man to the meter in the kitchen. He then left him alone and went into the living room.

After the man left the flat the victim returned the kitchen and saw his wallet was missing, along with £55, a photo, bus pass and credit card.

The man is white, in his mid 20s, thin, about 6ft tall, with a tattoo on either side of his neck and short black hair.

He was wearing black shorts and carried a black shoulder bag.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Julie Bonello said: “While most people who call at your home will be genuine, we are reminding people to be alert to bogus callers who may try to trick their way into your home and steal from you.

“Bogus callers are very bold and confident but if someone calls at your home and you are not sure that they are genuine, close the door and seek verification.”
