Police officer assaulted during disturbance in Margate High Street

A police officer was assaulted while arresting a man during a disturbance in a town centre.

Officers were called to Margate High Street just before 10.30am on Saturday following reports two men were involved in an altercation at the junction with Marine Gardens.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray in nearby Marine Drive and a pen knife was also seized.

A police officer was assaulted during the arrest and the man was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
