UK Power Networks has apologised for disruption caused to people in Birchington by diesel fumes from industrial generators outside their homes.

Last week the Thanet Extra reported some people in the Quex Park area had suffered headaches and nausea and others had complained about lack of sleep due to the noise.

UK Power Networks has been investigating a series of power cuts in the area, and installed the machines to maintain the supply while the problem was sorted.

UK Power Networks press officer James Barber said: “The final generator, serving 121 customers, was switched off at 1.11pm on Monday, August 12, with the customers transferred to the permanent electricity distribution network.

“Extensive repairs on the network in the area have now been completed.

“Again, we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident.”

Work was carried out after suspected third party damage to an underground cable resulted in a power interruption

The damage initially affected 2,063 customers, although engineers were able to restore power to the majority of them later the same day.
