A Ramsgate man has been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to two burglaries in Broadstairs and Canterbury.

Jason Pitt, 42, of Conyngham Close, was found rifling through drawers by a man living at a house in Ramsgate Road, Broadstairs.

He fled the scene through a broken pane of glass in the back door despite the victim attempting to stop him on May 19.

Through forensic tests, DNA found on the victim's arm identified Pitt as the offender.

Three weeks earlier Pitt carried out a burglary in London Road, Canterbury, where CCTV showed him with a bag in one hand and a sock covering his other hand as he searched through a house, stealing jewellery and electrical goods.

A further four burglaries and two handling offences were taken into consideration for Pitt's sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court yesterday.

During the police interview Pitt declined to comment.

Kent Police senior investigating officer detective inspector Neil Watford said: "Pitt is a prolific burglar and shows a complete disregard for the law and the effect his actions have on his victims.

"During this investigation we were able to reunite victims of crime with their property that had been sold locally.
