A pensioner was conned into handing over bank details to fraudsters after they claimed she was due a rebate.

The 74-year-old from Dane Valley received a call from people pretending to be from Sky insurance.

They then persuaded her to reveal an account number and sort code so she may receive £200 compensation.

But after putting down the phone she called a friend to say, 'I think I have done something stupid.'

Her friend who does not want to be named says she then checked the details.

She said: "My friend had asked the people on the phone to provide the Sky helpline which I looked up online; as it was the same I thought everything was ok. I feel stupid and was duped too."

Luckily the pair reported it to Action Fraud where they took swift action.

The pensioner did not have any money stolen as fortunately there were no funds in the account but they want to warn others.

"We rang Sky and they did not seem surprised by our news. People need to be aware," she said.
