South Thanet MP Laura Sandys has called on the Church Commissioner in Parliament to recognise the work of volunteers at St Peter’s Church in Broadstairs, who developed the award-winning tourism project the St Peter’s Tour.
Having visited the church with Laura last year, commissioner Sir Tony Baldry MP responded by saying St Peter’s is an “excellent example of a church which is a hub in the community, hosting local clubs and services for the elderly as well as toddler’s groups and young people’s clubs.”
He went on to praise the tourism scheme, which has become a popular attraction for visitors to Broadstairs.
He also highlighted Holy Trinity Church in Margate, which he described as “another fantastic example of a church delivering almost 24/7 social action.”
Ms Sandys said: “The tourism sector is so vital to making sure our beautiful coastal towns continue to thrive. I was delighted to visit the St Peter’s Tour with Sir Tony and think the volunteers deserve the very highest form of recognition for their fantastic work, which is benefitting the local community and setting an example for other towns and parishes across the country.
