Ramsgate: String of suspicious fires at Trove Court, Newcastle Hill

A series of suspicious fires at a block of flats in Ramsgate has sparked a police appeal for information.

Firefighters have been called to Trove Court in Newcastle Hill several times in the past two months to deal with fires inside a rubbish chute.

Police visited the flats on Wednesday, along with fire service and East Kent Housing officials, where they carried out door-to-door enquiries and gave safety advice to residents.

Sergeant James Ross said: "While the cause of these fires is currently unknown, the belief is that they are being started deliberately.

"I would like to remind people that starting fires is not only incredibly dangerous and puts lives at risk, but that it also potentially diverts resources away from other more serious incidents."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 01843 222289 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
