Students hit the streets to give their town a spring clean as part of a national campaign to tidy up town centres.

The group from East Kent College headed out into Broadstairs today armed with bags and litter pickers for The Great British Spring Clean.

The event, organised by the Broadstairs Community Alcohol Partnership, saw volunteers wearing high visibility vests and staff out in force targeting renowned alcohol litter hotspots.

The partnership is a link between Kent County Council, Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Thanet District Council and businesses.

They targeted Victoria Gardens, West Cliff Promenade and Pierremont Park in the clean up.

The Broadstairs CAP was set up in 2017 and has already made an impact in the town, building strong relationships with schools and businesses.

Neil Butcher, from Kent County Council Trading Standards and a co-ordinator of the CAP, said: "The CAP is all about bringing the community together to tackle local problems and The Great British Spring Clean is a wonderful way for us to work together to improve our local environment."

Equipment was donated by the Co-op, Waitrose and Asda.
