Thanet residents are being asked which services matter to them as the budget consultation begins.

The feedback stage opened yesterday and responses from people in the area will inform next year's council tax revenue allocation.

By taking part in the budget consultation residents have an opportunity to help shape spending and to identify priorities for the council over the next year.

The council has seen significant reductions in government funding over the last four years and further reductions are anticipated over the coming years.

The typical household pays £29.19 council tax per week and of this, Thanet council receives £4.04 per week.

The remainder goes to Kent County Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Kent and the Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority.

The council has made savings of £6.2m between 2011-12 and 2014-15 by sharing services with neighbouring councils and reviewing staff structures.

Cabinet member for finance Cllr John Townend said: "The council only receives a small portion of council tax revenue and this, combined with government funding, means it is even more important that residents views are taken into account when deciding which services this should fund.”
