Westgate-on-Sea has created its own town anniversary which it hopes to celebrate annually.
The seaside town’s council has said the day will feature community events from noon until 9pm on Sunday, July 21, on the greens at Sea Road, and in Ethelbert and Adrian Squares.
It will feature a performance stage for local talents to showcase their material as well as a fun fair.
Meanwhile, an artisan marketplace will also be available, offering a range of produce from local made crafts, food and drink.
A council spokesman said: “Part of the initiative is to involve both the young and old of the town learning from each other.
“As such local schools, youth group and care homes will be participating in Westgate-on-Sea-related projects leading to a prizegiving on the anniversary of July 18.
“The projects encourage discovery of the town’s history, culture and environment as well as intergenerational relationships where young and not-so-young can learn from each other.
“Then the celebration day on July 21 is for all locals and visitors to come together, enjoy the festivities, explore the town and have fun.”
The newly-created town anniversary is to be July 18 every year and will be known as Westgate Day.
The council is calling on people to use the tag #WestgateProud on social media when posting photos.
The spokesman added: “This anniversary is designed to raise awareness of the town and its uniqueness, and give an official annual day where the locals can celebrate the pride of our unique town.
“Each year we will increase and build on the year before, becoming bigger and better every year, so come an be part of the first ever Westgate Day.
“We are still looking for additional stallholders for Ethelbert Square and Adrian Square to sell artisan crafts, food and drink.
“Also, we are looking for anyone to act as volunteer stewards for the day."
