Train hits road sign thrown on track at Broadstairs causing delays between Margate and Ramsgate

There are delays on a coastal railway line after a train hit a traffic sign that had been left on the tracks.

The line from Margate towards Ramsgate was closed earlier this morning while response staff from train operator Southeastern carried out a safety inspection at the track in Broadstairs.

The electric current was switched off to both lines to allow the sign to be removed and safety checks to be made.

The line has since reopened in both directions.
