Travellers evicted from an illegal camp next to a tourist attraction have already set up a new camp in another public car park.

Police and council enforcement teams broke up the site at the car park next to Dreamland in Margate first thing this morning.

But the group immediately moved six miles across Thanet with around 25 vehicles now pitched up at the car park on Ramsgate seafront.

The first reports of the group moving on came less than half an hour after news broke of the group leaving the Dreamland site.

Residents have reacted angrily calling the saga a 'merry go-round' as travellers move from site to site across the district to evade council enforcement rules.

A resident who lives on Ramsgate seafront, who asked not to be named, said it was the third time in six months travellers had turned up at the Marine Esplanade car park, which is run by Thanet District Council.

He added he believed it was the same group of people and the same vehicles each time.

The neighbour said: "This is by far the biggest encampment I have seen, trucks and caravans fill the site.

"The money that is wasted by this council on this matter is stupid. And as usual, all the residents get left with is the filth, rubbish and vermin.

"What annoys me the most is the last time they came TDC operated a special 'refuse' collection service everyday for them. Even to the extent of giving them their own refuse bins."

The latest encampment comes after TDC alongside Kent Police served an enforcement order on the group after using the car park off Belgrave Road, which is behind Dreamland, since early January.

The council has been criticised for taking nine weeks to finally move the group on despite serving legal notices to move on.

Several notices were issued by the council but the group reportedly moved the vehicles around and returned.

A spokesman for TDC said the enforcement action was being taken after a court order had been ignored by the group.

Pictures taken show extensive amount of waste generated at the camp with human excrement reportedly left strewn over the car park.

Residents and businesses complained about waste and rubbish piling up at the site and a lack of action being taken by the council in forcing them to leave.
