Two Kent restaurants have been named in Tripadvisor's best 'quick bites' in the UK for 2024.

Please Sir! in Broadstairs and Notorious B.R.G in Canterbury have landed in the top 10 for the accolade this year, at number three and five respectively.

Please Sir! in Broadstairs was ranked number three in Tripadvisor’s top 10 for the best quick bites in the UK

The recognition is part of Tripadvisor’s Travellers' Choice Awards Best of the Best 2024, which looks at reviews posted over the past 12 months.

Offering a variety of burgers, Please Sir! was founded in September 2020 by Steve Lawrence who was driven by his passion for culinary excellence and love for the smash burger.

In the TripAdvisor rundown, the judges wrote: “The knowledgeable staff and quick service make it a favourite with families.

“The owner’s personal touch and the reasonable prices add to the overall enjoyable experience.”

In 2021, it was the best-rated restaurant in the county and KentOnline reporter Jack Dyson said it was a “thoroughly enjoyable meal” when he visited.

He explained that at the time, of its 111 Tripadvisor reviews, 108 gave it full marks, while the remainder gave it four stars out of five. And this was just nine months into their opening.

“Once our orders were made, my wife and I took in our surroundings. The space was filled with the sounds of sizzling meat, chatter and laughter pouring through from the kitchen behind, while '80s tracks streamed out of speakers nearby,” he said.

“As I crammed mouthfuls of burger down my throat, ketchup and American mustard seeped out onto my fingers. Beneath the dollops of sauce were salty strips of bacon, succulent steak patties, thick, tart gherkins and cheese. Lovely.

“It even looked like the advertising picture plastered on the front of the restaurant. I'm more used to being served burgers that look like they had been thrown together than those in glossy images.”

Notorious B.R.G also specialises in burgers, which can come with shredded pork, mac and cheese and plenty more delicious options.

TripAdvisor judges say: “Quick service and a fun atmosphere, complete with a great playlist, combined with outstanding burgers make Notorious B.R.G Canterbury a memorable spot.

“Fries, mac and cheese, and vegan burger options round out the tasty menu.

“For a relaxed night in, their excellent delivery service won't disappoint.”

Our own reviewer Sean McPolin visited in 2021, and despite the praise on TripAdvisor, wasn’t prepared for how good the offering was.

Sean was stumped at what to choose as he read the menu which was inundated with choice of different burger options – which also had a vegan section.

“In the end, I went for the El Pollo, a southern-fried chicken burger, vegan crispy duck fries and a kinder bueno milkshake, while my better half opted for the vegan Mac Daddy, vegan cheesy bacon fries and an Oreo milkshake,” he said.

“Everything about the burger worked well. From the bun, to the cheddar slice and to the streaky bacon.

“I thought the experience had peaked with the burger but was in for a shock when I grabbed a handful of fries, which could be the best in Kent.”
