Ex-UKIP Thanet councillors said to have quit the council and tendered their resignations

Two former UKIP councillors are understood to have resigned from Thanet council.

Cllr Konnor Collins and Cllr Helen Smith quit UKIP to become independent councillors after falling out with the council leader Chris Wells last year.

They were elected in 2015 as part of the UKIP group that took control of Thanet council last May.

Recently, the pair were in court facing charges of theft and are due to stand trial in September.

Cllr Helen Smith

Helen Smith, 52, and Mr Collins, who represented Northwood, have not attended any council meetings since October and are understood to be the subject of a number of standards complaints referred to the council.

There have also been questions raised about the military record Cllr Collins has claimed to have had.
