Doctor Who's 50th anniversary episode on the big screen in 3D at Vue at Westwood Cross

Vue Entertainment, in association with BBC Worldwide, is to screen the special 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who on the big screen at its Westwood Cross complex.

It will be shown in stunning 3D nationwide on Saturday, November 23, simultaneously with the broadcast on BBC One.

In addition to Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman, the one-off 75-minute special, entitled The Day of the Doctor, stars former Time Lord David Tennant as well as Billie Piper and John Hurt.

In this special event to celebrate the iconic British drama series, thousands of fans are expected to attend screenings in the UK and many countries around the world, where they can enjoy the episode and specially shot introductions for theatrical audiences.

A Vue Entertainment spokesperson said: “Doctor Who is a British TV institution, and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to screen this very special episode at the majority of Vue cinemas nationwide, so everyone can have the opportunity to enjoy the sci-fi action in 3D.

“We expect this to be a very popular screening with Doctor Who fans across the country, who will enjoy specially shot footage in 3D, through state-of-the-art audio-visual technology and from the comfort of Vue’s stadium-style seating.

“The screening is set to be a real event for our customers, who we encourage to dress up as their favourite character for the occasion, and we look forward to being part of the historic celebrations.”

Since 1963 Doctor Who has been one of the best loved dramas, and is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful sci-fi series ever.

The show has received numerous awards across its 50 years and has seen huge commercial success with over 10 million DVDs and 8 million action figures sold globally.

It is also the number one BBC show on iTunes in the UK. BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the UK broadcaster, distributes Doctor Who to over 200 territories globally.
