Thousands of music lovers are set to descend on Thanet for the return of the Wheels and Fins festival later this year.

Organisers have announced Kent punk duo Slaves will perform at the two-day event at Joss Bay near Broadstairs.

The festival is a combination of live and electronic music, skateboarding and surfing on the sands at one of Thanet's award-winning beaches.

The live music line up is yet to be announced but promoters say they hope to attract top names following appearances by The Libertines, Reverend and the Maker, Feeder and Echo and The Bunnymen last year.

Some 10,000 revellers are expected to pitch up at the beach with stages setting up around the site before gates open on Saturday, September 7.

Festival founder Dave Melmoth says it "was a total no brainer" to call on Slaves, who are from Tunbridge Wells, to curate the line up for the main stage on the Saturday night.

He added: "With the success of The Libertines curating the lineup in 2018, we needed something energetic, credible and in your face - and there’s no denying that Slaves are that band.

"Personally, I love a bit of punk plus these dudes are from Kent so they’re the perfect fit for the festival - it’ll be sick to see them rock out on home turf. Watch out for this one, it’s going to go off.”

The duo - Laurie Vincent and Issac Holman - will bring their mix of rap, punk and rock have appeared on Later with Jools Holland and are former nominees for the BBC's Sound of 2015 and a Mercury Music Prize.

They have handpicked a selection of talent to take to the stage alongside them on the main Lighthouse Stage including: Willie J Healey, Lady Bird, Queen Zee, Para Fiction, Hockeysmith, FEET, MarthaGunn and Ditz.

So far, the 2019 line up includes a Hospital Records Takeover with drum and bass legends, S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Logistics, Nu:Tone.

Spanning the electronic spectrum, a Ministry of Sound Takeover featuring Noisia, Redlight, DJ Zinc, Barley Legal and other leading names are set to blow the speakers.

Promoters say there will be day time activities including stand-up paddleboard racing and surf competitions at what is described as a "hidden gem of a festival".

Day tickets start at £40 or £75 for the weekend for adults with upgrades to glamping tents available for an extra £20 with views across the bay out to sea. Children tickets start at £6 for the day or £12 for the weekend.
