Teenager arrested after ‘brawl’ in Margate High Street

Police have made an arrest after a group of youths reportedly attacked a high street worker and damaged a police car.

Officers were called to Margate at around 5pm yesterday following reports of disorder.

It is alleged a teenage girl punched a member of staff at a commercial premises in the high street.

Officers are also investigating a report that a girl assaulted a woman by pulling her hair.

During inquiries at the scene attempts were made to damage one of their squad cars, police say.

A 16-year-old boy from London was arrested on suspicion of causing damage, as well as assaulting an officer. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Officers worked with CCTV operators to monitor the area and a 48-hour dispersal order was implemented.

The group was instructed to leave the town centre with a warning that they risked arrest if they returned.
