A woman has had a lucky escape after being forced to scramble up cliffs to avoid getting cut off by the tide.

Lifeboat and coastguards crews were called to Stone Bay in Broadstairs to rescue the woman this afternoon.

The inshore lifeboat from Ramsgate RNLI was called at 1.40pm and reached the casualty after she climbed up to stay out of the water.

She was safely returned to Broadstairs harbour and met by coastguard officers.

A spokesman for Ramsgate lifeboat station said: "The inshore lifeboat found the casualty and after having checked for depth and rocks, pushed the lifeboat up to the cliff edge, allowing the casualty to get aboard.

"Once she was safely ashore, they made their way back to Ramsgate."

At the weekend, two people were rescued by crews after getting into trouble in the sea while trying to save a dog from drowning at the nearby Joss Bay.

In an emergency call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
