A woman has been found dead at Walpole Bay in Margate.

Police were called to a report of a body being discovered on a lower promenade in the area of Fifth Avenue, Cliftonville at around 7.30am.

Officers attended the scene alongside forensics and ambulance crews.

The area was taped off.

Police are still trying to identify the woman and establish the circumstances of her death.

An ambulance spokesman said: "I can confirm that ambulance crews attended the area of Fifth Avenue, Cliftonville, this morning (20 Sept) after reports a body had been discovered.

"Sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene."

Anyone who was in the area earlier today, between around 6am and 7.30am, and may have information, is asked to call police on 01843 222289 quoting 20-171.

It is the second tragedy on Kent's coastline, after a man in his 80s was found dead on Hythe seafront earlier today.
