The power of Minster's Dan Woodgate proved too much for Elvis Dube (Derby) as he won their four-round contest 40-36.
Woodgate also felt comfortable and was pleased with his night's work.
"I got the win and everything went as planned really," said Woodgate. "I'd liked to have staopped him but I was really pleased.
"I knew he was dangerous so I wasn't going to walk out and hold my chin out. I landed a couple of good shots in the first round and he was a bit more defensive after that.
"I took a bit more of a risk and outboxed him in the fourth round. I knew he was looking for the right hand but I didn't expect him to have a lovely left hook which he caught me with in the first round."
It was only Woodgate's fourth bout but he knows he need to progress quickly if he is to make his mark in the pro game.
"We're working on being as big as we can," he added. "We're not taking anything for granted. I only made the ABA quarters, I think I am better than that but I'm 27 so didn't have time to wait in the amateurs.
"This is what I wanted to achieve early on in my pro career as I was a stablemate with Scott and Vinny Woolford and we'd always wanted to box on the same show.
"Once I get the longer rounds in that's when I will do more damage - I don't rush in and have a tear-up.
"We've been working on some good stuff in the gym and I got everything off that I wanted to get off."
