All Year 8 pupils at a secondary school have been sent home after a child tested positive for Covid-19.
Letters went out to parents of the pupils at St Georges Church of England Foundation School in Broadstairs asking that children be kept home.
Only those who have been in close contact with the infected child have to self-isolate, while the others must just continue following lockdown measures.
Head teacher Adam Mirams said a Year 8 child had tested positive and alongside the impact on staffing this meant all pupils in that year group will have to work from home.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and we have been working hard to ensure that we can identify the close contacts," he said.
"If your child has been in close contact we will be contacting you with clear guidelines on what to do and the time your child needs to isolate at home for.
"Due to the lateness of the information we will be completing our own track and trace and will be in touch by email and text message if your child is required to self isolate.
"All other pupils in Year 8 do not have to self isolate but simply need to follow current lockdown rules.
"We have decided that Year 8 will remain at home until December 7 when they will return to school."
Year 9 pupils, who are currently learning from home, return to school on Monday.
In another email, parents were informed that a student who had tested positive had travelled on the 48a morning bus and afternoon 933 bus on November 19 and 20.
"If your child travelled on one of the above bus services they will need to self isolate and remain at home as follows.
"If travel was on Thursday, November 19, self isolate until Thursday, December 3, return to school Friday, December 4.
"If travel was on Friday, November 20, self isolate until Friday, December 4, return to school Monday, December 7."
