Armed police dealing with robbery in Ramsgate High Street

A man has been arrested after armed police descended on Ramsgate High Street.

Firearms officers were called to the town centre at lunchtime after an attempted robbery on a shop.

A member of staff is said to have been attacked.

A police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested by armed police officers following a report of an attempted robbery in High Street, Ramsgate at 1.35pm.

"It is reported that two men assaulted a member of staff at a shop before making off. Enquiries are ongoing."

The International convenience store was sealed off while officers dealt with the incident.

The police helicopter was also seen hovering overhead.
