Armed police spotted outside property in Margate just hours after the Duchess of Cambridge's visit

A man held by police after armed officers were called to a house in Margate just an hour after the Duchess of Cambridge's visit has been charged with possession of an air gun.

John Parsons, 41, of Norfolk Road, Cliftonville was charged with possession of an air weapon with the intent to cause fear and possession of an air weapon designed for the discharge of poisonous liquid.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates Court yesterday and has been remanded in custody until a further court date is confirmed.

At least six officers were spotted at the house in Norfolk Road, Cliftonville at 1.50pm, less than an hour after the Duchess of Cambridge concluded her visit to the area on Wednesday.

Police shut off the street and an alley leading to Warwick Road.
