The woman who died after falling from a high street building yesterday has been named locally as Lana Vanzetta.
Police and paramedics were called to Margate town centre at about 12.30pm and Bilton Square was closed off.
Lana, the owner of the Margate House art gallery, sadly died on her way to a London hospital, according to Richard Ash, chairman of Margate Town Team.
Paying tribute last night, he wrote: "It is with great sadness that I have to tell you Lana Vanetta, of the old Burton's building, has tragically fallen from an upper floor, earlier today and sadly lost her life from her injuries on the way to a London hospital.
"Margate Town Team send our deepest sympathies to her family and all her friends in Margate.
"She always had opinions, stood for what she believed in, bought and turned her building around, and made a success of it in a very very short period of time.
"She was in great spirits building for the future.
"Our kindest thoughts to all involved with her. This will be a deeply felt loss for all."
Members of the Gordon Road Area Street Scheme (GRASS) community group in Cliftonville also paid tribute.
"Lana has been a huge supporter and friend of us here at GRASS Cliftonville," they wrote.
"At each of our events she volunteered and took the most amazing photographs and really brought our community events to life with her talent.
"Lana was actively involved in organising the GRASS children’s Christmas party and always said that capturing the smilies and excitement on the kids faces made her day.
"We will miss you Lana our thoughts go out to her family and friends."
A police spokesman said a report into Lana's death is now being prepared for the coroner. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
