A tiny Tracey Emin artwork was the star lot at a charity auction in Margate, raising more than £500 for the RNLI.

The postcard-sized picture by the Turner Prize nominee was one of 100 miniature artworks that went under the hammer at the Harbour Arm Gallery on Saturday. It now takes pride of place in a house in Broadstairs.

The auction featured artworks by other celebrities, including Martin Clunes and Vic Reeves, Alan Titchmarsh and adventurer Bear Grylls, as well as a host of local artists. RNLI crew members also donated pieces to the auction, which raised around £4,000.

Lyn Edwards, a volunteer fundraiser for the RNLI, said: "We're incredibly grateful for the support of all the artists and bidders."

It is the second time the Harbour Arm Gallery has staged an auction of postcard-sized artworks for charity.

In 2009 £8,000 was raised for Nicole's Fund, set up Whitstable resident Nicole Dryburgh, who died earlier this year after a long battle with cancer. In total, the fund raised more than £100,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
