Thanet District Council introduces traffic light scheme at beaches for dog walkers

A traffic light system has been put in place along Thanet's coastline to indicate where dogs can - and can't - go on the beach.

Green shows where dogs are allowed at anytime of the year; amber shows where dogs are allowed but with restrictions; and red means no dogs between May 1 and September 30.

An interactive map on Thanet District Council's website also uses the scheme.

Those who don't stick to the code could face a fine of £100.

A spokesman for TDC said: "We've introduced a new traffic light system on our beaches (in place between May 1 and September 30) so you know when and where you can take your dogs.

"We've added new signs with the same traffic light system to our bays and beaches too.

"We're lucky to have so many Blue Flag beaches on our doorsteps, so please follow to code we have in place.

"We rely on everyone to follow the code, but those who don't could be fined £100."
