POLICE have warned householders to be on their guard against a man claiming to be a replacement window salesman working in Thanet for a limited time and who is offering cut price products.
The man telephoned a 63-year-old woman at Ramsgate a number of times in recent weeks and she eventually agreed to his request for an appointment. He looked around her home, gave her an estimate for the work, and left when she rejected the offer.
She then found her mobile telephone valued at £120 had been stolen from a kitchen table.
A police spokeswoman said: “The man was very persistent. He did not have any identification with him and when the woman checked with the company he claimed to represent, they did not have any operatives working in the area.
“Our advice is not to let any salesmen or workmen into your home unless you have made the prior arrangement in person and you are expecting them.”
The caller, who said his name was Dave, is in his early 30s, stocky, with spiky brown hair. He wore black trousers, a blue shirt, and a two-tone blue jacket.
Det Con Ray Butterwick would like to hear from anyone who has been contacted by the man. Telephone 01843 222024.
