A BT worker has had his uniform stolen from a van in Broadstairs. Police are warning householders to be on their guard against bogus workmen after the BT jacket, fleece and baseball cap were taken from the marked van in Cliffside Drive.

A spokeswoman said: ”As with anything like this, we would ask residents to request formal identification from unexpected callers. A uniform is not necessarily proof that the person is who they say they are.

“Anyone who is in doubt should contact the caller’s head office. If they are genuine they will not mind you doing so.”

Police would like anyone with information about the theft of the uniform to contact them at Margate Police Station.
