A boy was taken to hospital after falling through the roof of a derelict school yesterday evening.

Emergency services were called to the former Royal School for Deaf Children in Victoria Road, Margate, at about 5.20pm.

The boy was taken to hospital after suffering a back injury and cuts.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "At 5.20pm yesterday we sent two response cars and two ambulances to a report of a youth falling through a window into a disused building.

"He sustained cuts as well as injuries to limbs and back and was taken to the William Harvey Hospital for treatment."

A police spokesman added: "Police were called at about 5.40pm on Sunday, February 17 to assist the South East Coast Ambulance Service with a report a boy had fallen from the roof of a disused building in Victoria Road, Margate.

"He sustained an injury and was taken to a local hospital."

The school closed in 2015 after The John Townsend Trust, which ran the school, went into administration.
