Police appeal for witnesses after dog incident in Northdown Park Road, Cliftonville.

Officers are searching for the owner of a dog which hurt a three-year-old boy as he had a picnic with his parents.

The incident, where the youngster suffered two grazes to his finger, happened yesterday at Northdown Park, Northdown Park Road, Clifftonville between 12.20pmand 12.34pm.

Investigating officer police constable Michaela Hill said: "A couple and their young children were having a picnic in the park when they reported a dog came over and took a sandwich from their three-year-old son’s hand.

"The dog was also bouncing around a pushchair in which a newborn baby was asleep."

The boy was not seriously injured but officers are concerned there was a lack of control over the animal.

It was described as a brindle-coloured Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog with an olive-coloured nylon collar and a dark brown or burgundy lead.

The owner is described as a white male, aged about 65-years-old, of a slim build and unshaven with white wavy hair with grey flecks.

He was wearing a heavy beige or cream-coloured jumper, dark trousers and dark shoes.
