The boyfriend of a woman killed in a road accident is to be charged over her death by authorities in Thailand, police in the country have said.

Danny Glass, from Margate, was riding a scooter with Sophie Emma Rose Anderson, 41, who was heavily pregnant, when they collided with a truck on the island of Phuket.

Mr Glass is to be charged with killing his partner, who is originally from Blackpool, by reckless driving. The other driver is also facing charges, say police.

It is expected that Mr Glass, whose family are believed to be in Thailand, will be formally charged in a local court on Thursday.

The couple were keen bloggers and Mr Glass posted a video speaking of his sorrow after the tragedy on May 8.

Ms Anderson had a YouTube channel called Sophie's Joy Breastfeeding Mama.

Mr Glass said in an emotional blog soon afterwards that he "missed her so much" and added: "Somebody wake me up from this nightmare. She is meant to be having my baby in three months." This week he said he would not be posting any more video diaries "for a while".

A Foreign Office official said: "We are in contact with the Thai police and are providing consular support to a British man following a road traffic accident in Bangkok."
