A Cliftonville family of a teenage girl with a severe form of bone cancer is trying to give her a dream holiday.

Olivia Coughlan, 16, of Black Notley in Essex, was diagnosed with a severe form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma in January 2014 after a tumour the size of a melon was discovered on her lower left side close to her spine.

After 30 weeks of chemotherapy the activity level of the tumour had dramatically decreased but unfortunately the size had not.

On November 3, 2014, she underwent a major operation removing her leg, hip and sacrum.

Now her uncle Ian and aunt Dawn Crysell from Cliftonville have organised a fundraising evening tomorrow to make her dream holiday come true.

They have booked The Pavilion in Broadstairs from 7pm until midnight with DJ Sean Smyth and Canterbury band Barkin Mad set to perform. There will also be a raffle and auction.

Ian said: “After a difficult year for Liv and her family, we would like to fundraise for a dream holiday which they truly need and deserve.

“Liv’s dream is to swim with dolphins in Florida and we would like to make that happen.

“She is such an inspirational young girl and she keeps smiling through everything.”
