Ramsgate bully jailed at Canterbury Crown Court after glassing partner in brutal attack

A bully from Ramsgate who glassed his partner in a brutal attack and then hacked her social media has been jailed.

Jay Daniel smashed a glass candle-holder over his victim’s head and told her he would have her arrested if she called the police.

The 35-year-old would then make almost 200 phone calls to his victim after he was arrested and hijack her Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Daniel was jailed for 30 months for unlawful wounding and harassment at Canterbury Crown Court.

His victim told the court: “When I woke up the next morning I felt sad. I need to consider the safety of myself.

“I feel worried for my family and myself, due to Jay - this relationship has made me feel drained.

“Socially I find it hard to do things and go out, I have been told I have not been myself.”

Prosecutors told how Daniel began hurling insults at the woman, calling her “fat and disgusting”.

When she asked him to leave and turned away, he glassed her and threatened to have her arrested if she called the police.

Christopher Prior, prosecuting, explained he told the woman: “If you call the police I’ll tell them that you tried to stab me.”

She was treated for a deep wound to her ear with surgical glue at Margate’s QEQM Hospital shortly after the attack in April last year.

Meanwhile, Daniel was arrested but he would ride roughshod over bail conditions, intent on carrying out a new campaign of terror.

He phoned the woman almost 200 times and sent scores of texts, then hacked her Facebook and Instagram accounts and tried gaining access to her home.

In a devious bid to clear his name, Daniel sent a message from her Instagram to his own, claiming she had injured herself on purpose to have him jailed.

He denied wounding with intent but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of wounding before trial this year.

The court heard Daniel has 12 convictions, including wounding with intent, actual bodily harm and assault, with the violence largely happening in a domestic setting.

Recorder Alistair Webster QC condemned Daniel for his violent history and jailed him for 30 months.

“You were hacking into her Facebook and Instagram accounts, something that only came to an end on your arrest,” he said.

“It seems to me domestic violence is something you witnessed as a child that has established a pattern of behaviour on you.

“Until that cycle is broken, life for you is going to involve a number of occasions where this sort of conduct is reported.”

Daniel, of Effingham Street in Ramsgate, appeared via videolink from HMP Elmley and remained passive throughout the hearing.

His barrister, Julia Mackworth, said Daniel was subjected to domestic abuse as a child and “wants to break the cycle.”
