Beach-goers were shocked to discover a burnt-out car at a popular seafront this morning.

The charred remains of the silver Vauxhall Insignia could be seen at Walpole Bay in Margate.

The vehicle's paint work and body have been extensively damaged by the blaze.

Police confirmed they were contacted at about 7am today about the abandoned burnt-out car on the beach at Walpole Bay.

A spokesman said: "Local officers attended and enquiries into the matter remain ongoing."
